Dr. Vilas Mujumdar has been an independent consulting engineer since 2009. Previously he was CEO, President and Partner in many large engineering firms and at highest-level in the public sector; Chief of Operations, Division of State Architect, State of California; Director, Engineering Research Centers Program at the National Science Foundation (NSF). His professional experience includes Design, Project Management, Teaching, and Research Management in Asia, Europe, Canada and the US.

Gaurav
Gaurav received his Masters and Doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering from University of Minnesota in 2008 and 2011, respectively, after completing BTech in Civil Engineering from IIT(BHU) Varanasi in 2007. Subsequently, he spent some time at University of Notre Dame as a Postdoctoral Research Associate before joining IIT Gandhinagar in May 2013. His main research interests include studying the effects of fire on structural and non-structural building components, computational mechanics, multi-physics simulations and uncertainty quantification. He is also the co-coordinator of the Centre for Safety Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar.
He has organized several trainings and workshops in the area of fire engineering in India and has developed India's first full-scale fire testing facility at IIT Gandhinagar which has laid the foundation of many successful industrial collaborations in the area of fire safety. He has published two books relating to fire safety in addition to several journal articles. One of his recent research articles was featured by the journal editors as being among the most relevant for the year 2020-21.
Gaurav headed the Career Development Services at IIT Gandhinagar during the period 2014-17 before getting involved with the Campus Development office, where he is currently serving as the Dean, Campus Development since 2018. He has been a part of the Institute's social outreach and welfare programs in the capacity of Chairman, Shramik Kalyan Samiti from 2020-21 and has helped tackle COVID-19 related issues in the capacity of Chair, COVID Medical Response Team since 2020.
