Daycare Learning Center
The IITGN Day Care Centre was started in March 2014 as a community initiative to provide a safe, secure and nurturing environment to the children from IITGN families. Our centre caters to children between the ages of 6 months to 10 years, and operates from Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm. Our centre has adopted an open admission policy with a fee structure that is accessible to all sections of the IITGN community.
One unique feature of the daycare at IITGN is that, we take pride in meeting the needs of our children in-house. Passionate community members who have had some prior experience in child care help with designing the curriculum and facilitating the day-to-day operations.
Our centre is guided by a simple aim - to help in the development of children by engaging them in activities that they tend to enjoy the most. With this in mind, we offer unique, non-traditional developmental programs for children to learn through music, dance, play and exploration.
Activities
The everyday routine in the daycare incorporates music and movement activities, art and craft sessions, basics of yoga and gymnastics, story time, classroom teaching through play and exploration and also sand and water play sessions. Together these activities hone the children’s concentration, imagination, problem solving and motor skills. Some of our flagship programs are:
- Kids Supported Agriculture (KSA): Our most loved program till date, this one lets the kids get their hands dirty and grow their own veggies. Be it ploughing, making scare crows or simply plucking carrots, our energetic kids are just unstoppable on the fields.
- Cooking sessions: A very important activity in a child’s day, our expert chefs love putting together sandwiches and decorating cupcakes for dessert!
- Other events: Besides the above, we also host pajama parties, movie times, mango and amla picking sessions, festival celebrations and sports day events.
In summary, our unique curriculum focuses on holistic development to bring out the best in the little children and thereby promote their progress. Our activities thus function as vital tools for developing key physical, social and intellectual skills in our children.
Facilities
Located in a sprawling apartment in one of our housing blocks close to community residence, our child friendly facility is nothing less than the child’s own beautiful home. The facility has several functional areas such as pretend-play room, class and activity room with a generous collection of books, toys and arts and crafts supplies, recreational room for yoga, indoor exercise and free play activities, sleep rooms, dining room, a kitchen equipped with a microwave and a fridge and so on. It also has a private garden and a separate outdoor sand-pit area.
Several measures to ensure safety and security such as a CCTV monitoring system, first aid kit and access to a doctor, safety door, high hygiene standards, sufficient childproofing and so on have been taken.
Team
Our team consists of supervisors, activity teachers and helpers who oversee day to day operations. In addition, a management committee provides general superintendence and directions for overall functioning of the centre.
