Smt. Meera and Prof. Girish K Sharma Chair

IIT Gandhinagar has setup this faculty chair through a donation by Mrs Rashmi Sharma and Mr Manish Sharma.

Mrs Rashmi Sharma and Mr Manish Sharma, Bangalore-based well-wishers of the Institute, have made a generous gift to create a faculty chair in honour of their parents Smt Meera and Prof Girish K Sharma.

Prof Girish K Sharma is a Visiting Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Professor-in-Charge of Faculty Affairs at IITGN, with vast experience in teaching and research at various prestigious institutes.

During his illustrious academic career spanning more than 55 years, he has been Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Bombay during Dec.1987-Dec.1990, Dean (SA) at IIT Bombay during Sept 1991-Feb 1995 and served as the Chairman of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering in 1997.

Mr Manish Sharma is Accenture’s chief operating officer and a member of Accenture’s Global Management Committee. A strong advocate for inclusion and diversity, Mr Sharma founded Accenture Rural ‘Impact Sourcing’ programme that extends support to small business services firms and youth in rural areas.

Mrs Rashmi Sharma is an Engineer MBA who is committed to education and child welfare in different capacities. She is currently involved with training new teachers for Montessori courses.

Sameer Dalvi

Sameer Dalvi is currently serving as a Professor of Chemical Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar. He joined IIT Gandhinagar in December 2009. Before joining IIT Gandhinagar, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Columbia University and as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at New Jersey Centre for Engineered Particulates in New Jersey Institute of Technology. He received his PhD (2007) and MTech (2003), both from IIT Bombay.

His main research interests include crystallization of pharmaceuticals, synthesis and stability of nano-drug suspensions, microbubbles for biomedical applications such as drug delivery and ultrasonic imaging, understanding polymorphic behavior of drug molecules, liquid marbles, and molecular dynamic simulations for aqueous solutions of drug molecules.

Sameer is a recipient of NASI Young Scientist Platinum Jubilee Award, National Academy of Sciences India (2015) and Young Engineers Award, Institution of Engineers, India (2010). He also received IIT Gandhinagar Excellence in Teaching Award (2011) and Excellence in Research Award (2013).

At IIT Gandhinagar, he has served as Associate Dean, Faculty Relations (2014-2018) and as Academic Coordinator of Chemical Engineering (2011-2017). He is currently serving as the Head of Engineering Disciplines, IITGN (2020 onwards) and as a Chair of IITGN Central Instrumentation Facility (2018 onwards).
