Smt. Amba and Sri V S Sastry Chair
IIT Gandhinagar has setup this faculty chair through a donation by Dr. A.V. Anilkumar
Professor A V Anilkumar of Vanderbilt University and a well-wisher of the Institute has established the 'Smt Amba and Sri V S Sastry Chair', in honour of Professor Anilkumar's parents.
Smt. Amba and Sri V S Sastry Chair at IIT Gandhinagar will support faculty members in all areas of engineering or natural sciences.
The Donor
Dr. A.V. Anilkumar is a professor of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Practice and Director of the Aerospace Design Laboratory at Vanderbilt University. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics from the Graduate Aerospace Laboratories at the California Institute of Technology.
Dr. A.V. Anilkumar
Dr. A.V. Anilkumar is a professor of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Practice and Director of the Aerospace Design Laboratory at Vanderbilt University. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics from the Graduate Aerospace Laboratories at the California Institute of Technology. He has been a NASA investigator of microgravity fluid physics, and materials processing phenomena on the International Space Station and on Space Shuttle flights. As director of the Vanderbilt Aerospace Design Laboratory he has developed a highly-acclaimed cross-disciplinary and innovative rocket flight dynamics, reaction control and payload design program that is at the cutting edge of Space Exploration, preparing students for challenging careers in the contemporary Space Launch industries. Professor Anilkumar has been honored as the faculty advisor of the year, and the Abe Zarem educator of the year by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Vanderbilt University has honored him with the Chancellor’s Cup, for the greatest intellectual and academic contributions to undergraduate students outside of classroom teaching, and the Vanderbilt School of Engineering award for excellence in teaching.
