In December 2011, the Institute held the first meeting of its Academic Advisory Council. The Council, comprising some renowned academicians, industrialists, and government representatives, discussed academic issues of priority to IITGN. Envisioned as an annual meeting, the Academic Advisory Council will provide strategic and external inputs on issues of key importance as the Institute grows from being a 500 student Institute to one with 5000! In its first meeting, the Council discussed faculty recruitment strategies, establishing feedback mechanisms for the Institute, development of an academic masterplan, and nurturing young faculty at the Institute to ensure their fullest professional and personal growth.

He has earlier served as a Director of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. He has been a Consultant to the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank besides advising various National and International organizations. He has varied experience in field of teaching and administration of more than 38 years including 33 years in IIMA. He served as an Independent Director of Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd and Nachmo Knitex Limited. He has authored numerous books in Business Economics, Corporate Strategy, and Development Economics etc. Prof. Dholakia was awarded Padma Shree in 2007.

Professor Jennings received his B. S. degree in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the California Institute of Technology. After serving in the United States Air Force as a member of the faculty of the Air Force Academy, he joined the faculty of Caltech in 1966. He served as Chairman of the Division of Engineering and Applied Science from 1985 to 1989 and was Caltech’s Vice President and Provost from 1989 to 1995. Following that he became Acting Vice President for Business and Finance until September of 1995; he held this post again in 1998-1999. From 2004 to 2007 he again became Caltech’s Provost. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a past President of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, a past President of the Seismological Society of America, and a Fellow and past-chair of the California Council on Science and Technology.

Professor Richard K. Miller is the founding President and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering in 1999. He served as Dean of the College of Engineering and Professor at the University of Iowa from 1992-1999. He is the author or co-author of about 100 reviewed journal articles and other technical publications. He has been a consultant to many companies including the Aerospace Corporation, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Hughes Aircraft Company, and Astro Aerospace Corporation, where he made significant contributions to the Heliogyro, Solares, Mast Flight Experiment, Milstar, Mobile Transporter, and many other projects. Prof. Miller obtained his B.S from University of California, Davis, M.S from MIT and PhD from Caltech.
Prof. K. N. Panikkar is a historian, and served as the Professor of Modern Indian History at the Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Prior to joining JNU, he taught at University of Delhi. In 2001, he was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kerala. Currently he serves as the Chairman of the Kerala Council for Historical Research and the General President of the Indian History Congress. He was appointed as the Chairman of the Planning Commission's Subcommittee on Strategic Funding for State Higher Education System in August 2011. He is well known for his work on intellectual and cultural history of colonial India.

Prof. Prasad has held many responsible positions in his illustrious career at IIT Delhi. He has been its Director, Deputy Director, and Dean of Undergraduate Studies. He was a Visiting Research fellow at the Loughborough University of Technology, Loughborough, UK from 1976 to 1977 and was a visiting faculty at the Pennsylvania State University, USA. Dr. Prasad has received numerous awards and honors during his career viz. the Vikram Sarabhai Research Award in 1987 and the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Engineering Sciences in 1988. He is a Fellow, Indian National Sciences Academy of Engineering; Fellow, Indian National Science Academy, and Fellow, Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore.

Prof. Raghavan Rangarajan has been on the faculty of the Theoretical Physics Division at the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad (PRL) since 1997. Prior to coming to PRL he was a student at Princeton University and the University of California at Santa Barbara, and a postdoctoral fellow at the Houston Advanced Research Centre. His areas of research are Cosmology and Particle Physics. He has worked on different subjects in these fields such as dark matter, the matter anti-matter asymmetry of the universe, and the cosmic microwave background radiation.

Prof. Dheeraj Sanghi is currently Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur. From 2008 - 2010, he served as the Director, LNM Institute of Information Technology (LNMIIT), a public-private partnership University in Jaipur. His administrative experience includes running the Institute Computer Center, managing Graduate Admissions, cultural advisor to students, Student Counselling, managing UG education at IIT Kanpur (as Chairman of Senate Under Graduate Committee), design of CS curriculum, and Chairman of Health Center Users Committee. He has visited about 70 colleges in India to discuss issues related to careerplanning, future of IT industry, curriculum and various technical/research talks. Professor Sanghi has a B. Tech from IIT Kanpur, and M. S. and Ph. D. from University of Maryland.

Mr Shah has 30 years of experience as a Chief Executive of Textile Manufacturing Operations. Mr Shah has been an Independent Non-Executive Director of Unichem Laboratories Ltd. (Econ.) from the London School of Economics and has attended PMD at Harvard Business School.

Professor Sukhatme has been a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Bombay since 1965. He was the Director of IIT Bombay during 1995-2000, and Chairman of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, Govt. of India during 2000-2005. Currently, he is a member of Board of numerous academic and other organizations. He is the recipient of many honours and awards and was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in 1983. He was elected as a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences in 1986, a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering in 1987, a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy in 1995 and a Fellow of National Academy of Sciences in 1999. He is the recipient of Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2001 and was the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award of the IIT Bombay. Prof. Sukhatme obtained B.Sc (Engg.) from BHUS.M (Master of Science) and Sc.D. (Doctor of Science) from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Prof. Satish K. Tripathi is an internationally recognized accomplished researcher, transformative higher education leader, and the 15th President of the University at Buffalo (UB). He also served as UB's Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs from 2004-2011, and was one of the principal creators of the UB 2020 strategic plan to achieve academic research excellence, and has led the university to achieve significant growth in research and scholarly activity, enhanced student quality and diversity, and an expanded international presence. Dr Tripathi served as Dean of the Bourns College of Engineering at the University of California-Riverside from 1997-2004 and as Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland, where his 19-year tenure on the faculty included serving as chair from 1988-95.
